Casto Ignites for Eight in Pacers' Romp of Cyclones

Scranton, Pa. - Marywood University scored a key 15-7 victory over Centenary University Saturday to dramatically increase its chances of a berth and home game in Colonial States Athletic Conference men's lacrosse playoff picture. The Pacers jumped into third place with the win with one game remaining on the schedule. 

Matt Casto added a career-high eight points with six goals and two assists. Casto moves to just two points shy of becoming the ninth Marywood player to reach the century mark for his career. He also provided four ground balls. 

Zach Vaughan and Rob Maini each tallied two goals and three assists. Vaughan set a new career best of five points. 

Austin Maylor registered two goals and an assist. Zach Beja netted a pair of first half goals. 

Riley Litman won 13 of 22 faceoff chances with six ground balls. 

In net, Chris Favale captured his fourth straight win with six saves. 

Centenary was led by Chris Snow with two goals. Michael Balsamo had two goals. Noah Jones came into relief to make five saves. 

With a Marywood win over Keystone and a Gwynedd Mercy loss to No. 11 Cabrini Wednesday, the Pacers would move into the second seed and host the CSAC semifinal. 

Marywood had everything working for them in the first half. The Pacers opened the game with the first three goals, started by Casto's unassisted tally at the 10:47 mark. Nolan Gottshall ended the drought at 3:43. Maylor and Maini tacked on a pair of goals to extend the lead to 5-1 with a minute gone by in the second period. 

The Pacers outshot the Cyclones by a 36-27 clip. The Pacers held onto a slight 26-24 advantage in ground balls. 

Marywood hosts the Giants Wednesday at 4:00 pm.
