Softball Plates a Dozen in Both Games to Extend Streak to 12

Langhorne, Pa. - Marywood University extended its winning streak to 12 straight with a doubleheader sweep of Cairn University Saturday in Colonial States Athletic Conference softball action. The Pacers plated a dozen in each five-inning game, winning the opener 12-2 before handing the Highlanders a 12-3 loss in the nightcap. 

The Pacers (16-13, 16-2 CSAC) stay pat in second place in the CSAC softball standings. First place Neumann University has one fewer loss with two games in hand. Cabrini University trails in third with four games in hand. 

The winning streak is the third-largest in the program's 41-year history. Dating back to April 9, the Pacers' run is the largest in three decades, trailing only the 1987 (17 games) and 1988 (14 games) seasons. 

Kaitlyn Epler went 4 for 8 with five RBIs, four runs and two doubles in the series. Brooke Labs batted 3 for 5 with two runs. 

In the first game, Alyssa Bavaro moved into sole possession of third place in the career record books with her 25th victory. Bavaro allowed two earned runs in a complete game effort, allowing nine hits. Amanda Bridgwood took the hill in the second game, striking out seven and allowing four hits in five innings for her first win of the season. 

Marywood was seeing the ball well both games with a combined 24 hits. All but two starters for the series hit safely. 

In the night cap, Sam Reid went 3 for 4 with three RBIs and a double. Hannah Docalovich gave way to three Pacers to score on her 1 for 2 day at the plate. Epler had three runs scored. She led the way for Labs, Alexa Scala and Malory Porada, all of whom touched home twice. 

In the first game, a quintent of Pacers -- Epler, Labs, Kirstie Alvarez, Mackie Goodwin and Lauryn Butler -- had two-hit efforts. Epler drove in three RBIs. Marywood hit six doubles. 

Marywood tallied six in the first inning of the opener and 12 in the first two innings of the nightcap.

Katelyn Loveless totaled three hits for Cairn. 

The Pacers eyes to add two to the win column Tuesday when they seek their first nonconference wins against The University of Scranton in a home tilt.
