Scranton, Pa. - Marywood University rallied for a 12-9 opening game win before extending their win streak to 14 games with a 8-0 five-inning shutout of Neumann University Friday afternoon.  The helped Marywood jump the Knights into first place in the conference standings as Marywoods sits at 18-13 (18-2 CSAC), now a half-game ahead of Neumann, who fell to 23-13 (17-3 CSAC).

Down 4-0 without generating an out in the first inning, Marywood got three of those runs back in the bottom half of the inning to keep the opener close.  Despite falling behind 6-2 after one and a half innings, Marywood again enjoyed a three-run inning in the bottom of the second to tie the game at 6-6.

After giving up solo runs in both the fourth and fifth innings, Marywood mounted yet another comeback, scoring two in the bottom of the fourth to tie it up at 8-8.

After a scoreless fifth for both teams, Neumann looked in great shape after a single run in the top of the sixth put them up 9-8.  But the Marywood bats did not stay quite again as the Pacers plated four in the bottom of the sixth to clinch the game.

Katie Siano battled all game long on the mound but eventually walked away with her fifth win of the year.  Siano allowed six earned runs on 13 hits in 6.1 innings of work.  Kirstie Alvarez did not allow a hit and got the final two outs to earn her first save of the year.

Alvarez also finished 2-for-4 with three RBI at the plate. Alexa Scala was 2-for-3 with four RBI and also drove in the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning.

In the shutout nightcap win, Alvarez dominated on the mound and at the plate but the Pacers did not make this game nearly as close.

Marywood took a 2-0 lead after one inning of play thanks to an Alvarez double to left that scored Brooke Labs and Scala.

In the fourth, Marywood extened their lead with a five-run inning.  Labs brought in two runs with a double to center and Alvarez brought in two more with her second double of the game.

On the mound, Alvarez allowed just three Neumann hits in the complete-game win.  She finished 2-for-3 at the plate with two doubles and four RBI.  Labs was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored while Mallory Porada was 3-for-3 with two runs scored.

Marywood will look to lock up the number one seed in the CSAC post-season tournament when the Pacers host Immaculata University tomorrow at 1:00 pm. Marywood can clinch the top seed by winning one of the two games.

The games will also mark "Senior Day" for Marywood and will also serve as the softball team's "Pink Game" in support of Breast Cancer awareness.
