Extra Base Hits Lead Neumann Past Marywood

Scranton, Pa. - Neumann University had eight extra base hits, including back-to-back homers from Duncan Balara, as the visiting Knights took the final game of a three-game series from Marywood with a 9-1 win over the Pacers Monday afternoon in Scranton. Both teams now stand 3-3 in CSAC play, with Neumann improving to 8-9 overall and Marywood slipping to 6-10.

Balara grounded into a double play in his first at-bat, but then homered to left in both the fifth and seventh as part of his four RBI day.  His fifth inning homer brought in three runs and he added a solo shot in the seventh.

In all, Neumann had five doubles, a triple and two homers.  Chuck Trentler was 2-for-4 with a double, triple, and two RBI.  Eric Bergman added a double and pair of RBIs for the Knights.

Marywood's lone run came in the second when Alan Navaro grounded out to short but brought home Justin Schuster, who had tripled to center just before Navaro's at-bat.

Salvatore Monello (0-3) took the loss after allowing six earned runs on nine hits. Monello did strike out six Neumann batters in six innings of work.

Grant Wallace (4-3) earned the win, going eight strong innings and also striking out six while allowing just six Marywood hits.

Marywood scheduled to be back in action tomorrow at Wilkes University. The non-conference tilt is slated for a 4:00 pm start.
