Watson's Big Day Leads Pacers over Mighty Macs

Immaculata, Pa. -- Marywood University went on to a 17-7 victory over Immaculata University Saturday in a key Colonial States Athletic Conference women's lacrosse matchup. The Pacers (8-4, 5-1 CSAC) move into sole possession of second place in the conference standings. Marywood won its fifth straight game.

Caitlin Watson had a career-best seven points on four goals and three assists. Erin Healy scored four goals to move to within eight points of the century team.

Gwyneth Gleason provided the team with three goals and an assist. Ashley Valway had a hat trick for the fourth time in five games.

Natalie Burke supplied a goal, two assists and four ground balls. She had three caused turnovers that puts her seven within the school record.

Molly Yelencsics sported a Pacers' season-best six caused turnovers, in addition to four ground balls. Haley Risi totaled five ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Lauren Smith made six saves in goal.

Marywood broke away from a 2-2 tie to score eight straight goals over a 20-minute span in the first half. Gleason opened the game with an unassisted goal at 28:17. The Mighty Macs' Brittany Whaley evened the score 16 seconds later. Healy had other things in mind when she regained the Pacers' lead on an assist from Katrina Kelly at the 25:49 mark. Again, Immaculata responded quickly 35 seconds afterward when Bailey Krewson delivered a strike from Nicole Dominick.

Watson kicked off the Pacers' eight-goal run with a free-position goal a minute later. Immaculata did not score again until Whaley tacked on two in the final 30 seconds in the half.

The Pacers tallied seven of the first eight goals of the second half, extending their lead to as many as 17-5. Valway set off the running clock at the midway point of the period.

Whaley sported six points on four goals and two assist to pace Immaculata. Krewson manufactured six ground balls and four caused turnovers.

Marywood doubled the Mighty Macs 34-17 in shots. The Pacers also registered a 25-16 lead in ground balls. The Mighty Macs held the advantage (16-9) in draw controls. Marywood excelled on its transition game by making it 21 of 24 tries.

The Pacers will look to extend their winning streak Thursday when they travel to Centenary University.
