Scranton, Pa. - The University of Scranton used a three-run second inning and held off a late Marywood rally attempt as the Royals snapped the Pacers' five-game win streak with 6-4 win in non-conference baseball action Monday afternoon. The Royals improved to 16-19 on the year while Marywood slipped to 13-20.

Scranton built a 4-0 lead through two innings of play thanks largely to a three-run second inning, highlighted by Tommy Trotter's two-run double to center.

After a Kevin Haag solo homer extended the Royals' lead to 5-0 in the top of the seventh, Marywood got on the board in the bottom half of the inning thanks to a Vince Rebar RBI single that scored Austin Takvor.

Scranton extended their lead to 6-1 with a single run in the eight before Marywood's Anthony Navaro made a game of it with a three run blast over the left field fence.  It was the freshman catcher's fourth long ball of the year.

Marywood could not, however get the tying or winning runs across the plate in the bottom of the ninth as Scranton held on for the win.

Matt Staback (3-for-4) hit a pair of doubles, giving him 10 on the year.  Rebar was 1-for-4 with an RBI while James Goetz, Alan Nieto and David Ortiz all had two hits for the Pacers.

Justin Perez (1-4) suffered the loss after allowing three earned runs over the opening two innings of play.  Billy McAuliffe, Nathan Michener and Trevor Powers shared relief duties the rest of the way.

Matt McDonald struck out four over seven innings to get the win, improving to 2-0 on the year.  David Chromey struck out two in the ninth to get his first save of the year.

Trotter and Justin Howell had two RBI apiece for Scranton while Sean Haveron was 2-for-4 at the plate.

Marywood travels to Elmira Collge Wednesday before opening a key three-game series with Gwynedd Mercy Friday.
