Scranton, Pa. - Fourth-seeded Cabrini University powered past top-seed Marywood University 13-1 in the opening game of the 2017 CSAC Championship softball tournament in Scranton, which is double-elimation format.  #2 Neumann edged #3 Immaculata 2-1 in a game played in Aston.

Cabrini (19-21) used power early and often. The  Cavaliers scored three in the first, six in the second and four in the third to put the game out of reach early. Marywood's lone run came on a Kirstie Alvarez solo homer in the second.

Lindsay Savar was 3-for-4 with four RBI to lead the visitors.  Savar smashed her 13th homer of the year in the contest.  Emily Smull also homered for the visitors, connecting on her first of the year.  Smull finished the game 2-for-3 with two RBI and three runs scored.

Jess Giordano (6-3) shut down the Pacer bats, allowing just five hits and Alvarez's long ball while striking out four. Alvarez struggled on the mound for Marywood, allowing nine runs on 10 hits in 1.1 innings.  Alyssa Bavaro and Kaite Siano also threw for Marywood in relief.

The Cavaliers started the game strong as Chrissy Ferraro tripled to right and then advanced home when the relay throw to third went high.  Smull would them homer two batters later to bring in two runs as Cabrini took a 3-0 lead.

That lead extended to 9-0 as Cabrini scored six in the second, highlighted by a two-run double to center from Amber Deitrich.

After Marywood got one back in the bottom of the second on Alvarez's first homerun of the year, Cabrini did more damage in the top of the third as Savar brought in three of the four Cabrini runs in the inning with a shot to deep left center.

Due to the expected inclement weather Friday, games were pushed to today and hosted by the highest seed.  Marywood will face #3 Immaculata University Saturday in an elimination game at 12:00 pm.  Cabrini will take on #2 Neumann in the 2:00 pm game.  All remaining games of the tournament will be played at Marywood University.
