Women's Lacrosse Receives ECAC Bid, Hosts Marymount in First Round

Danbury, Conn. - Marywood University received an Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Women's Lacrossse Championship bid for the first time since 2012. The fourth-seeded Pacers will host No. 5 Marymount University Wednesday in the first round. 

Stockton University earned the overall top seed and a first round bye. The Ospreys will host the semifinals and finals on Saturday and Sunday. 

Second-seeded Misericordia University will face No. 7 seed Moravian College. Drew University, the No. 3 seed, will take on sixth-seeded Arcadia University. 

Marywood narrowly lost to a pair of ECAC foes in back-to-back days in March. The Pacers fell 9-5 to Arcadia on March 5 and were defeated 10-8 to Misericordia the next day. 

The Pacers were ECAC Mid Atlantic Region runners-up in their last appearance in 2012. Marywood ousted Morrisville State 15-9, and Washington and Jefferson 7-6 to reach the championship on its home turf. Alvernia beat the Pacers 18-7 in the final. In their only other ECAC appearance, St. John Fisher had the best the Pacers 21-4 in 2011. 

Marywood (12-6) are led by Colonial States Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year Lauren Smith in goal. Gwyneth Gleason has 63 points and 50 draw controls to her credit. Ashley Valway leads the team with 48 goals. Senior Natalie Burke holds the team highs with 32 caused turnovers and 65 ground balls as a midfielder. Marywood fell to Cabrini University 20-9 in the CSAC championship. 

Marymount (10-6) started the year by winning six of its first seven games before hitting the difficult CAC schedule. Jessica Crew was the team's top scorer with 54 goals, and Second Team All-CAC Abby Wescott has 87 points on the year thanks to 58 assists. Defensively, Liah Agouras generated 30 caused turnovers and 45 ground balls.

First Round - Wednesday, May 10 at Drew University
Game 2: No. 3 Drew University (11-7) vs. No. 6 Arcadia University (8-8) - 7 p.m.

First Round - Wednesday, May 10 at Marywood University
Game 3: No. 4 Marywood University (12-6) vs. No. 5 Marymount University (10-6) - 7 p.m.

Semifinals - Saturday, May 13 at Stockton University
Game 4: No. 1 Stockton University (9-6) vs. Winner of Game 1 - 11 a.m.
Game 5: Winner of Game 2 vs. Winner of Game 3 - 2 p.m.

Championship - Sunday, May 14 at Stockton University
Winner Semifinal 1 vs. Winner Semifinal 2 - 2 p.m.
