Late Scranton Rally Dooms Field Hockey in 2-1 Loss

Scranton, Pa. – Marywood University was unable to hold onto a late lead as crosstown University of Scranton stormed back for a 2-1 victory in field hockey action. The Pacers have lost both of their home games in the final three minutes of regulation.

The Royals' Megan Gallagher scored the game-winning goal with just 1:41 left on the clock. After the Scranton defense went coast-to-coast, Megan Gallagher hit an 18-yard blast from the left perimeter to give her team the late advantage.

Marywood took the lead in the 51st minute on a penalty corner opportunity. On a Sara Sterchak push, Tori Jo Kakusian was unable to initially corral the ball and brought it center. Kakusian rifled off a shot that was destined for the back of the cage.

Scranton tied the game with less than eight minutes remaining. Meredith Campbell deflected a Gallagher ball from the top of the circle into the right side for the equalizer.

Gallagher finished with a goal and an assist.

Sara Marshall recorded a defensive save for the Pacers.

Scranton outshot the Pacers by a 15-9 clip and 11-4 on target. The Royals had a slight 7-5 edge in penalty corners.

Marywood keeper Kerri Mountz made eight saves on the night. Her counterpart Jenna Cyr finished with three stops.

The Pacers will look to end their slide Saturday against Stockton.
