Marywood Drops Non-Conference Tilt to King's

Scranton, Pa. - Marywood University dropped their final non-conference game before the start of CSAC play next weekend as the Pacers (1-7) fell to King's College 4-1 in field hockey action Sunday. The Monarchs won their second straight to improve to 3-5.

The Monarchs' Brianna DiMaggio scored back-to-back at the 7:55 and 8:04 mark to give King's a quick 2-0 lead.  DiMaggio put the Monarchs up 1-0 after finishing a pass from Kelsey Gabriele from six yards out and then stole the ensuing restart and went in on a fast break to double their lead.

Marywood cut into the deficit with a goal from Jenna Dickey in the 19th minute as she tomahawked in a ball that popped up into the back of the cage.

King's would regain their two-goal advantage in the 26th minute when Gabriele got in on the scoring action, finishing Anastasia Araviakis' pass into the center from 10 yards out.

The Monarchs iced the game nine minutes into the second half when Selina Malacari took DiMaggio's pass and put in a shot off the upper post into the cage.

The visitors outshot the hosts 18-17 and had nine penalty corners to that of five for Marywood.

Kerri Mountz (four saves, 61:38) and Carlie Antes (one save, 8:22) each played in goal for Marywood while Kayla Nailor (seven saves) and Brianne Maluda (15:50) did for the Monarchs.

Marywood hosts Cabrini University in their CSAC opener Saturday September 30 at 6:00 pm.
