Pacers Fall Short to Moravian in Three Sets

Scranton, Pa. - Marywood University came short in a three-set loss to Moravian College Monday in women's volleyball action. The Greyhounds were victorious by scores by 25-19, 25-15, 26-24. 

Gabriella Santos finished with eight kills and 10 digs. Annie Heyen totaled 20 assists. Peri Sheerin had four aces, and Mikayla Attwood made four blocks. 

Jordan Vossler secured a game-high 15 digs. 

Marywood went ahead 9-4 early on in the first set, thanks in part to a five-point run on Sheerin serves that was aided with a pair of blocks. After Moravian took a 18-14 advantage, the Pacers evened the score by taking four straight points. Sheerin had back-to-back aces before Attwood evened the score at 18 apiece. The Greyhounds responded by taking seven of the final eight points of the set. 

Moravian scored the first five points of the second set. 

In the third set, Marywood won four straight points and tied the game at 10 on a Vossler ace. The Greyhounds had match point with a 24-21 lead; however, the Pacers put together three straight points on Sam Compton's service game, tying it at 24 apiece on a bad set. Moravian put the match away with a Victoria Kauffman kill and block. 

Mary Zacher had 16 kills and a .367 attack percentage with 10 digs for the Greyhounds. Erin Tiger posted a dozen kills. 

Marywood opens its Colonial States Athletic Conference slate on Wednesday night at Cedar Crest.
