Pacers Take Down Centenary, Remain Perfect in CSAC

Hackettstown, N.J. - Megan Swiecicki and Julie Youngman each had a goal and an assist as Marywood University defeated Centenary University 5-3 in a battle of CSAC unbeaten teams. The Pacers leveled their record to 4-4 and moved to 4-0 in league play.

Centenary fell to 5-2 (3-1 CSAC) with the loss.  Marywood had a 5-1 lead with 10 minutes remaining before a late rally attempt from the Cyclones fell short.

After missing several good opportunities early, Marywood grabbed a 1-0 lead when Emily Kotcho riffled a ball into the far upper ninety from 30 yards out in the 27th minute.

The Pacers doubled their lead moments later when Swiecicki beat a defender one-on-one down the right flank, then calmly slipped the Cyclone's netminder for a 2-0 lead.

The hosts got one back just before halftime as Centenary was awarded a penalty kick in the 43rd minute.  Emily Pizzuto scored her fourth goal of the year, slotting Aly Moyer slightly off center to her left.

With a 2-1 lead after the break, Marywood turned things up just over ten minutes into the second stanza.  Renae Moken was fouled inside the 18 on an attempted cut to the middle, and despite her initial penalty kick shot being saved, Moken followed and put home her own rebound for her seventh goal of the season.

Just over two minutes later, Marywood was awarded a direct kick on the visitor bench sideline, and Youngman found a streaking Molly Sobolewski who took one touch and sent home a 35 yard shot over the head of the keeper and into the net, putting Marywood up 4-1.

Marywood iced the game in the 81st minute as Swiecicki again beat a defender down the right flank and then found Youngman central, who one-timed it home to put the Pacers up 5-1.

Despite two late goals from the Cyclones, one from Amanda Benoit in the 85th minute and one from Chloe Christoper in the 88th, Marywood was able to secure the league win.

Marywood outshot the hosts 24-15 and placed 14 shots on goal to Centenary's eight. The Pacers had five corners to that of three for the hosts.

Moyer made five saves in the win while Kaitlyn Marold had eight in 67:44 for Centenary. Taylor Pryslak made one save in the final 22:16 for the hosts.

Marywood hosts Cabrini University Saturday at 12:00 pm.
