Men's Soccer Comes Short in Rainy Overtime Nailbiter

Michael Mejia makes 10 saves for the Pacers

Scranton, Pa. – Marywood University battled to overtime in a steady rain before falling 2-1 to Stockton University Wednesday in non-conference men's soccer. The Ospreys' Dan Marino scored the game-winning goal in the 92nd minute.

The Ospreys (3-0) tallied the game winner when Nick Cristea delivered a shot from the left plank on a breakaway chance. The Pacers' goalkeeper made a diving save that sent the ball to the middle of the box. Justin Ruiz cleared it away to the right side where Marino hammered it into the net.

The Pacers' Zac Lloyd scored the home team's lone goal in the 19th minute. Jon Dinnelli intercepted a pass and dished it to Lloyd, who two-touched it before delivering a goal from 21 yards out.

Stockton took an early goal in the 16th minute. Eucario Solano scored after rebounding Ruiz's shot.

Ruiz finished with two assists.

Michael Mejia made 10 saves in the losing effort. His counterpart Kellen Groover stopped four attempts.

Stockton doubled the Pacers in shots by a 16-8 clip. The Ospreys had five corner kicks to the Pacers' two.

Marywood returns to action Saturday to take on Ursinus College at 4:00 pm. Last season, the Bears defeated the Pacers 2-1 in double overtime by taking advantage of a pair of own goals.
