Pacers Secure Playoff Spot with 2-1 Win Over Cabrini

Scranton, Pa. - Marywood University scored within the first two minutes and last two minutes of Saturday's Atlantic East Conference field hockey game against Cabrini to edge the Cavaliers, 2-1.

The win also snaps Marywood's losing streak to Cabrini, a streak of 17 straight regular season games (22 including post-season), dating back to a 4-2 win over the Cavaliers on October 10, 2000.

Marywood (10-5, 3-2 Atlantic East) got a goal just 1:33 in from Angela Sanchez, who charged the cage after a rebound.  Gwyneth Gleason assisted on Sanchez's seventh tally of the year.

With less than two minutes remaining to play, Marywood tacked on an important insurance goal as Kenzie Drew put home a penalty stroke to make it 2-0.

That would prove necessary, as only 51 seconds later Cabrini's Gabby Thompson scored to make it 2-1 with 25 seconds remaining. Fortunately, the Pacers were able to run out the clock from there to secure their spot in the post-season.

Kerri Mountz made three stops for the Pacers in the win. Marywood out-shot the Cavaliers 25-6 (17-4 on goal).

The Pacers, who secured at least the #4 seed in the Atlantic East post-season tournament with today's win, travel to Moravian Tuesday for a 7:00 pm non-conference matchup against the Greyhounds.
