Missouri Baptist Hands Pacers First Loss

Cocoa Beach, Fla. - NAIA member Missouri Baptist University scored nine runs over the final two innings of play to beat Marywood University 14-3 in five innings Tuesday morning in spring break softball action.  Missouri Baptist improved to 7-5 on the year with the win while Marywood slipped to 2-1.

Playing as the visitor, Missouri Baptist scored five runs over their first three innings before Marywood got on the board with a single run in the bottom of the third.  The Spartans then tacked on three more runs in the fourth before exploding for six runs in the fifth.  Marywood tried their best to extend the game, scoring twice in the bottom of the fifth, but came up short as the game ended after the fifth with an 11-run loss for the Pacers.

Heather Schultz was 3-for-3 for Marywood and had one RBI while Alexa Scala was 2-for-3 with two runs batted in.  Kaitlyn Epler was also 2-for-3, but after the first three batters Marywood managed just two hits out of the rest of the lineup, getting one apiece from Mackie Goodwin in the sixth spot and one from Sara Hayes in the eight spot.

Schultz, Scala and Goodwin all had doubles for the Pacers.  Amanda Bridgwood (0-1) suffered the loss on the mound.  Kelly McKenna pitched the final two innings for the Pacers.  Baleigh Koester struck out eight Pacers and allowed three runs on nine hits to improve to 4-3 on the year for the Spartans.

Marywood returns to the diamond at noon to take on Gallaudet University.
