Women's Lacrosse Topples Mighty Macs in CSAC Opener

Scranton, Pa. – Marywood University opened its Colonial States Athletic Conference women's lacrosse slate with a 19-5 victory over Immaculata University on Saturday. The Pacers end a three-game skid and earn their third straight win against the Mighty Macs.

Zoe Simeone had a career day with five goals and an assist for six points. It was her first career hat trick, and she doubled her career-best for single-game points.

Sam Bussinelli matched her with six points on three goals and three assists. Gwyneth Gleason provided two goals and two assists with four draw controls.

Both Gina Babcock and Katrina Kelly finished with a pair of goals. Abbie Laime and Kylie Winton each scored their first goals of the year.

Defensively, Michaela DiLorenzo produced five ground balls and two caused turnovers. Molly Yelencsics had four ground balls and two caused turnovers. Kelly tallied four ground balls.

Mary Leahy secured her second win of the year with six saves. The Mighty Macs' Emily Schumann stopped 11 shots.

Marywood (3-5, 1-0) opened the game with three goals in the first eight minutes. Bussinelli put the Pacers on the scoreboard first after she came from behind the net on a Simeone pass to score at the 25:20 mark. Babcock rifled a free-position shot at 22:51. Forty-six seconds later, Healy had an unassisted goal to go ahead by three.

After Hannah Verrecchia gave the Mighty Macs their first goal of the game, Simeone tallied a woman-down goal at 15:35 to start a four-goal run over a six-minute span.

Brittany Whaley scored twice and posted seven draws for the Mighty Macs.

Marywood outshot Immaculata by a 38-15 margin. The Pacers went 22 for 24 on clears, while the Mighty Macs were limited to 12 of 19 on their attempts. Marywood won the ground ball game 27-14. Immaculata had a 15-9 advantage in draw controls.

The Pacers hit the road to face Cedar Crest College on Thursday.
