Schuster, Powers Set Records in 16-6 Win

Scranton, Pa. - Jake Schuster tied a single-game record with two homers and Trevor Powers had an inside the park homerun, triple, two doubles and drove in a single-game record eight runs to lead Marywood University to a 16-6 win over Clarks Summit in CSAC baseball action Wednesday afternoon. The win moves Marywood to 16-16 (6-8 CSAC) and keeps the Pacers' playoff hopes alive.

Marywood will need some help from Clarks Summit (0-27, 0-14 CSAC) Saturday because Cairn, who Marywood lost both games to, defeated Neumann and can clinch the final playoff spot with one win over the Defenders.  Marywood must win both their games Saturday at Cabrini and hope for the Defenders to get their first two wins of the season.

Schuster finished today's game 4-for-5 with three RBI and three runs scored.  Both his homers went deep over the right field fence. His two homers in a single game tie a program mark previously set by four others. Schuster's second blast marked his 100th career hit.

Powers, meanwhile, was one hit shy of hitting for the cycle, but in his final at-bat doubled to right instead of settling for that single.  Powers drove in a program record eight runs in the win. Powers' new record beat the previous record of seven RBI in a single game, set by Mike Piercy (vs. Elizabethtown, 3/4/2004) and Joseph Valvano (vs. John Jay, 3/1/2011).  Powes finished 4-for-6 with four runs scored.

John Mandarano (1-2) got his first win of the year on the mound, striking out four over five innings of work.

Dyllan Weaver, who suffered the loss (0-5) on the mound for Clarks Summit, blasted a three-run homer in the loss.

Marywood travels to Radnor and will face Cabrini in the crucial aforementioned doubleheader Saturday. Game one starts at noon.
