Aston, Pa. - Host and four-seed Neumann University defeated #5 Marywood University 9-0 in six innings as the Knights advanced to the CSAC double-elimination Championship tournament this weekend at top-seed Gwynedd Mercy.
Marywood closes their season with a 20-17 record.  The Knights improved to 22-14 with the shutout win.
Neumann jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning on a RBI double and RBI single down the line.  They added a run in the third thanks to a single up the middle, then plated three runs in the fifth and sixth innings to put the game away early.
Kirstie Alvarez (13-7) suffered the loss on the mound.  The Pacers were limited to just five hits, none of which were for extra bases.  Neumann, meanwhile, had three doubles and a homer in the win.
The game also marked the end of the career of Head Coach
Bob Fitzsimmons, who retires from Marywood after 16 seasons.  FItzsimmons leaves as the all-time winningest coach in Marywood athletics history, amassing 286 wins, including over 200 in conference play.  He led the Pacers to 11 straight CSAC post-season tournaments (2008-2018), four ECAC post-season tournament berths and a 2014 CSAC Championship and NCAA tournament berth, the only on in program history.
