Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Defeats Lycoming, 5-1

Scranton, Pa. - Marywood University's women's soccer team scored three second half goals en route to their first win of 2018, downing Lycoming 5-1 in non-conference action Tuesday afternoon.  The Pacers improve to 1-5 on the year while the Warriors slip to 1-8.

Megan Swiecicki netted her first goal of the year 8:23 into the contest, finishing a cross from Julie Youngman that was re-directed by Kassandra Riemer. Both Youngman and Riemer were credited with assists on the play.

Depsite controlling the rest of the first half (11-3 advantage in shots), Marywood was fortunate to maintain their one goal lead.  Lycoming took advantage of a misplayed ball in the back and forced Aly Moyer to make a breakaway save midway through the period.

With just under two minutes remaining in the opening stanza, Youngman corralled a lob pass from Aly Barlok  and fired past Warrior keeper Bronwen Lewis to double the Pacers' lead. That two-goal cushion was short-leved though, as Lycoming answered just 13 seconds after Youngman's tally when Elle Sarracco took the ball down the right win, moved into the 18 and chipped Moyer to the far post to make it a 2-1 game.

After the break, Marywood kept the pressure on the Lycoming defense and found pay dirt 3:18 into the half.  Madison Daches took a direct kick from 30 yards out on the left flank and drilled a shot to the upper right 90 to make it a 3-1 game.

Cara Romaniello then got in on the scoring for the Pacers, netting the final two goals of the game.  First, she headed in a cross from Daches after a Marywood corner kick in the 68th minute and then the sophomore striker closed the scoring on the day when she one-timed a driven cross from Youngman in the middle of the goal-mouth.

Marywood out-shot their visitors 25-4 in the game, with a 14-4 advantage in shots on goal and 6-3 advantage in corners.

Marywood will host York College of Pennsylvania Saturday at 1:00 pm.
