Marywood Knocks Off Keystone

Scranton, Pa. - Marywood picked up their second win of the year thanks to three first half goals as the Pacers beat Keystone 4-2 in non-conference women's soccer Tuesday afternoon.

Marywood improves to 2-6 while Keystone fell to 1-7.

Julie Youngman had two goals in the win.  Her first came just 4:23 into the contest when she took a feed from Natalia Colasurdo just past midfield and out-dribbled several defenders for a 40-yard breakaway before slotting the Giants' keeper to make it 1-0.

Just over 11 minutes later Megan Swiecicki doubled the Marywood lead when she got past the Keystone keeper for an open shot on goal.

Colasurdo would score what would turn out to be the eventual game-winner in the 31st minute when she took a feed from Kayla Schmadtke and turned right before slotting home her first of the year.

Despite out-shooting Keystone 15-3 in the opening half, Marywood could not sneak any more by Giants' netminder Rebekah Shepherd, who made six saves in the first half alone.

In the second, Keystone quickly got on the board with a breakaway goal from Faith Shiffer just 2:08 into the half.  Nisa Cortes got the assist.

Youngman would provide Marywood with a important insurance goal in the 68th minute when she controlled a loose ball and put it in the left side of the net to make it 4-1 Marywood. Both Swiecicki and Madison Daches picked up assists on the play.

Keystone kept playing hard, and in the 86th minute tallied their second goal when Jordyn Olsen sent a beautiful direct kick in from 40 yards out to make it 4-2.

Marywood out-shot Keystone 29-13 and placed 18 on goal to nine for the visitors. Aly Moyer made seven saves, while Shepherd finished with a game-high 14.

Marywood travels to nearby Clarks Summit University for a 1:00 pm non-conference tilt Saturday.
