Coast-to-Coast Game-Winner Lifts Pacers over Falcons in OT

Lindsey Quinn sets up Jaida Marks' winner

Scranton, Pa. - Freshman Jaida Marks delivered a game-winning goal in overtime to cap off Marywood University's 3-2 comeback win over Cedar Crest College. The Pacers trailed by two in the first 15 minutes of Friday night's game before scoring three unanswered goals in non-conference field hockey action.

Playing in her first career home game, Marks sparked the Pacers with a two-goal performance.

Lindsey Quinn engineered the game-winning play. In 7-on-7 overtime play, Quinn came off the bench to regain possession of a Cedar Crest offensive attack in the defensive circle. The Wilkes-Barre, Pa. native went coast-to-coast, outrunning Falcons defenders for the distance of the field.

In front of the cage, Quinn delivered a cross to Marks on the left wing. Marks' one-time was initially met by the Cedar Crest goalkeeper. The shot took a fortuitous bounce over her glove and dribbled into the cage to send the Pacers' bench into a frenzy.

It marks the second straight season that the former Colonial States Athletic Conference rivals have played to overtime. Marywood's win overcomes last year's 2-1 loss in Allentown.

Jenna Dickey added her second goal of the season to get the Pacers on the scoreboard. Both Angela Sanchez and Quinn finished the night with an assist.

Cedar Crest put the Pacers into an early hole with two goals in less than six minutes. Just over nine minutes into regulation, the Falcons' Annalise Unger cut through two defenders from the right side for the game's first goal. The Falcons doubled their lead when Serena Shuler passed to the left wing for Brice Gardner. Gardner ripped a 13-yard shot through the goalkeeper's legs.

Merely 35 seconds later, Dickey cut into the Pacers' deficit. Lindsey Gladden made a play on a defender to get the ball into the circle. Sanchez sent a ball to the right side for Dickey to score.

Marks delivered the equalizer five minutes into the second half. A penalty corner was passed out of the circle. Michaela Schmidt sent a pass to Marks. The freshman forward retreated from goal before performing a spin move that gave her an open look at her first career goal.

Marywood outshot Cedar Crest by a 20-4 margin, and the Pacers held a 10-3 advantage in shots on target. The Pacers had 16 penalty corners to the Falcons' two.

Kerri Mountz made one save for Marywood. Emma Ryan had seven saves in the losing decision.

Marywood will return home in two days when it hosts Kean University on Sunday at 2 p.m.
