Women's Basketball Routs Neumann for Atlantic East Victory

Hessling, Olson finish with 20 points apiece

Scranton, Pa. – Marywood University triumphed over Neumann University with an 80-59 victory Wednesday in Atlantic East Conference women's basketball action. Ending their two-game losing streak, the Pacers even their record to 2-2 in conference play.
 
Natasha Hessling finished with 20 points and 18 rebounds for her eighth double-double of the season. Hessling made 10 of 15 attempts from the field.
 
Fellow senior Alyssa Olson joined her with 20 points. She contributed with six assists and made all seven of her free throw attempts.
 
Four Pacers reached double digits in the scoring column. Aryah Aungst produced 17 points, four steals, and six assists. Emily Theobald provided 11 points.
 
The Division III scoring leader Nafisa Saunders finished with a game-high 22 points for the Knights. Kylin Ortiz had 10 rebounds.

It marks the Pacers' first win over Neumann since Dec. 3, 2016, ending a two-game losing streak to the Knights.
 
Marywood opened the game on a seven-point run in the first 82 seconds. After leading by as many as 11 in the first quarter, Neumann used a seven-point run of its own to come within a possession of the lead. Saunders hit a jumper in the paint to cut the Pacers' lead to 27-25 with 7:06 left in the second quarter. Hessling responded on the next possession by hitting a jumper from the free throw line on an assist from Theobald. Hessling added to the lead a minute later on a layup via Aungst. Saunders made it a one possession game again at the halfway point of the second quarter, and Hessling again responded with a field goal on the Pacers' next go-around.
 
Leading by seven with two minutes remaining, Marywood finished the half on a seven-point run. Hessling's layup with 32 seconds left sent the Pacers to halftime with a 43-32 lead.
 
Marywood scored the first 10 points of the third quarter, extending their scoring run to 17-0 over a five-minute span.
 
Marywood shot 44.6 percent from the field for the game, compared to the Knights' 30.6 percent. The Pacers made seven 3-pointers for a 46.7 percent mark from long distance. The Pacers out-rebounded the Knights with a 50-40 advantage.
 
The Pacers head to Immaculata University on Saturday at 1 pm.
