Women's Basketball Gets Back on Track with 65-52 Win over Wildcats

Williamsport, Pa. - Marywood University returned to the win column with a 65-52 victory over Penn College of Technology Sunday in non-conference women's basketball action. Trailing after the first quarter, the Pacers limited the Wildcats to just five second quarter points.

Natasha Hessling produced her 12th double-double of the season with 22 points and 16 rebounds. She made 10 of 16 shots from the field. Hessling stands just 22 points shy of 1,000 Point Club.

Emily Theobald matched a career-high with 18 points. She went 9 of 16 from the field.

Morgan Shamro provided the Pacers with nine points. Alyssa Olson tallied eight rebounds and six assists.

Madison Klock and Kaylah Brown had 11 and 10 points, respectively, for the Wildcats.

Marywood out-rebounded the Wildcasts by a 52-40 margin. The Pacers had a 36.9 field goal percentage and kept Penn College to 30.2 percent. Marywood totaled 17 assists.

The Wildcats held the lead in the first quarter. Tori Wolfe had an old-fashioned three-point play to put Penn College ahead 14-10 with 1:05 left. Theobald made a jumper in the paint with 10 seconds left in the second to halve the disadvantage.

Shamro began the second with a 3-pointer to take a 15-14 lead. Maci Ilgen's layup returned the lead to the Wildcats' favor at 7:23. Hessling made two straight shots to provide the Pacers with a 19-16 advantage. Cassi Kuhns evened the score at 19 apiece at the 5:18 mark, but the Wildcats were held scoreless until halftime. In the meantime, Theobald gave Marywood the lead for good with a jumper that kick-started an eight-point run head into halftime with a 27-19 lead.

Two field goals to start the second half made it a 12-point run, and the Wildcats were kept to without a field goal for a 10:16 length.

Marywood welcomes Cabrini University on Wednesday at 6 pm.
