Women's Soccer Closes Non-Conference Play with Shutout Road Win

New York, N.Y. - Marywood University women's soccer scored two goals while playing a player down for the final 29 minutes of regulation and went on to shutout John Jay College 3-0 in the Pacers' final non-conference game.

Marywood (3-6) got on the board 17:08 into Monday evening's contest when a dangerous cross by Kate Kollar-Dye from the right flank went in towards goal, skimmed off the head of a John Jay (6-6) defender and into the net.  The ruled own goal gave the Pacers a 1-0 lead.

Both teams would trade opportunities the rest of the half, but six saves from Haley Taylor and solid defensive work from Marywood's back line of Brooke Longstreet, Ashlyn Jess, Molly Sobolewski and Madison Daches kept the Greyhounds off the board.  John Jay keeper Brittany Shaneberger made four stops in the opening 45 minutes to keep her team down just one at the break.

Sixteen minutes into the second half, a Marywood player received a second yellow card and was ejected from the contest.  Playing a man down from the 61:08 mark on, Marywood did not relent, and did not allow a shot on goal after, despite one corner kick effort from the hosts hitting off the crossbar before skimming out of danger.

Marywood's defense only allowed one shot on goal in the second half, a lofty shot from distance which came three minutes in and was handled by Taylor.

In the 84th minute of action, with John Jay pressing for the equalizer, Marywood's Jackie VonItter found a gap in behind the defense and fed Natalia Colasurdo, who collected her classmate's pass and slipped it past Shaneberger to double the Pacers' lead.

Moments later, VonItter broke down the sideline and crossed into a streaking Becca Dolgas who one-timed it home at the far post to ice the game.

In all, Marywood out-shot John Jay 16-13 (12-7 on goal) and had a 6-3 advantage in corners.  Taylor, in her first start of the year, picked up seven saves to earn the clean sheet.

Marywood hosts Neumann University Saturday in the first Atlantic East Conference matchup of the season for both teams. Kick-off is set for 3:30 pm.
