Marywood Routs Neumann in Conference Opener

Aston, Pa. - Jenna Dickey, Lindsey Quinn and Angela Sanchez scored two goals apiece as Marywood University dominated Neumann University 8-1 in the Atlantic East field hockey opener for both schools Wednesday afternoon.

The Pacers, winners of six straight, also got goals from Heather Forbes and Lindsey Gladden to improve to 8-3 (1-0 AEC).  Neumann fell to 3-9 (0-1) with the loss.

Just :58 into the game, Gladden scored. nearly 10 minutes later, Quinn doubled the Marywood lead with the eventual game-winner.  Still in the first quarter, Jenna Dickey scored off a rebound at the 12:53 mark to put Marywood up 3-0.

The reigning AEC Offensive Player of the Week Sanchez got in on the scoring action with back-to-back goals for Marywood in the 19th and 24th minutes.  Sanchez's first tally was assisted by Dickey and the second by Quinn, both of whom would end up with five points on the day with a pair of goals and a helper each.  

Leading 5-0 at the half, Marywood did not slow up in the third quarter.  Dickey made it 6-0 in the 37th minute, and despite giving up a goal to Neumann's Sam Picker to start the fourth quarter, Marywood would tack on two more tallies from Quinn (47:52) and Forbes (51:57) to complete the road win.  

Marywood held a 23-2 advantage in shots and had 19 shots on goal to to two for the Knights.  The Pacers also held a 9-2 advantage in penalty corners.

Kerri Mountz had one save for the win in goal.

Marywood will be tested Saturday when they host Wesley College at 12:00 pm.  The Pacers and Wolverines battled to a pair of one-goal games in 2018 with Wesley coming out on top 2-1 in double overtime during the regular season and 1-0 in the AEC semifinals.
