Pacers Fall to St. Mary's Maryland to Open 2019 Season

St. Mary's City, Md. – The Marywood University men's lacrosse team opened its season with a 17-5 loss to St. Mary's College of Maryland on Sunday. It marked the first game of Jon Knowles' coaching career.

Zach Bradbury won 17 of 25 (68 percent) faceoff attempts. He also controlled a career-high 13 ground balls.

Patrick Dingwell and Zach Beja each posted a goal and an assist for the Pacers. Zach Vaughan and Luke Shedler each factored in with a goal.

Defensively, Joseph Guida finished with five ground balls. Matt Leen made four saves in the loss, and Connor Reed stopped a pair in 20 minutes.

Erich Wuesthoff provided the Seahawks with four goals. Jude Brown finished with a goal and three assists. Ross Snodderly made seven stops for St. Mary's.

St. Mary's outshot the Pacers by a 38-26 margin and were a perfect 22 of 22 in clear attempts. Marywood won the ground ball game with a 30-25 advantage.

Brown opened the game with a goal to give the Seahawks an early lead. Vaughan found the net on a Dingwell feed at 7:51 to even the score. St. Mary's put together four straight to take a 5-1 advantage on Ray LaPlaca's tally with 12:27 left in the first half.

Marywood trimmed the deficit to three on a rare team goal at the 11:37 mark. Nearly 11 minutes of scoreless lacrosse resulted in a Dominic Venanzi goal to head into the break with a 6-2 lead. St. Mary's scored three straight to start the third quarter.

The Pacers welcome the University of Scranton on Saturday at 1 pm. Marywood faces Arcadia University across town at Scranton's complex the following day.
