Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Marywood Closes Record Season in ECAC Quarterfinals

Frederick, Md. - Marywood University's men's basketball's record setting season has come to an end as the Pacers fell to Pod 3 top-seed Brandeis University 86-77 in the Eastern College Athletic Conference quarterfinals Friday evening.

Marywood closes their record-setting season at 17-11, a program-best in wins for a single season.  The Pacers also picked up the men's basketball program's first post-season win this year when they won in the opening round of the ECAC tournament.

For the second game in a row, Jaden Rhoden and Jeremy Ringland led the Pacers. This time, they both tallied 17 points on the night against the first-seeded Judges.  Tone Cockrell added 13 and Jack DeGroot 11, but it was not enough as the Pacers closed their 2018-19 season with a nine-point loss.

Brandeis (16-11) advances to face Drew University, a 77-66 winner over Marymount (Va.).  The Judges got a game-high 20 from Corey Sherman, 19 from Chandler Jones and three other players reached double digits in the win.

Playing without senior Thomas Swartz in what would have been the final game of his career, the Pacers hung tough throughout. Also missing Zach Tinkham due to illness, Marywood trailed by one (32-31) at the break.  A high-scoring second half affair saw the Judges outscore the Pacers 54-46 for the win.

A three-pointer from DeGroot with 2:14 remaining got the Pacers to within two (77-75), but Marywood was forced to foul and send the Judges to the free-throw line over the final two minutes where Brandeis went 9 of 10 to seal the victory.

Ringland and Swartz are Marywood's two graduating players.  Both reached the 1,000 point milestone earlier this season in the same contest.  They helped the team set numerous records throughout the season, including the most wins in a season (17) and the program's first post-season win.
