Pacers Drop Pair of One-Run Games to Open Florida Swing

Fort Pierce, Fla. - Marywood University opened their 2019 baseball Florida spring break trip with a pair of one-run losses to Washington College (Md.).  The Shoremen (7-0) came-from-behind to defeat the Pacers 5-4 in the opener then used an extra inning to win game two, 7-6.

Marywood (0-4) built a four-run lead through four innings in the opener, but Washington College erased that deficit with four runs in the bottom of the fifth. They then got the game-winner in the sixth on a bases-loaded walk.

Trevor Powers, Anthony Navaro and Morgan Theobald drove in a single run each for Marywood.  Alex Ferriola was charged with the loss in just 1/3 inning of relief work.  Michael Tempel was the lone Pacer with multiple hits, going 2-for-4 with a double and run scored.

In the nightcap, Tempel went 3-for-5 and Powers 3-for-4 as Marywood out-hit the Shoremen 12-11, but gave up the winning run after opening the extra frame by getting Washington College's first two batters out.  The Shoremen, with two outs, managed a double and game-winning single to get the 7-6 win as Marywood could not answer in the bottom of the frame.

Tempel added another double in game two.  Tyler Quick, who struck out three in 6.1 innings of relief work, suffered the loss.

Marywood returns to the diamond tomorrow with a doubleheader against Gettysburg College. Game one will begin at 10:00 am.
