Immaculata Rallies to Complete Sweep of Pacers in Atlantic East Opener

Scranton, Pa. - Immaculata University hit three eighth inning homers to come-from-behind and complete a sweep of host Marywood University in the Atlantic East Conference opener for both schools.

Immaculata, now 10-3 (2-0 AEC), won game one 7-0 after scoring six times in the opening inning.  Under conference rules, the first game of doubleheaders are seven innings while the second game are nine innings.

Marywood (3-10, 0-2) fell behind early in the opener. Trevor Powers was charged with the loss but only gave up two earned runs in the opening 1.1 innings.  Tyler Quick struck out three and kept the Mighty Macs off the board over his 4.2 innings of relief work, while Pasquale Mandarano pitched a scoreless seventh for the Pacers.

Marywood was limited to two hits, one apiece from Morgan Theobald and Jake Schuster, in the opening game loss. Tom Prato had a big opener for the visitors, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.  Billy Manzo improved to 3-0 on the year with the complete game shutout, striking out six in the win.

In the nightcap, Marywood held a 3-1 lead until the Mighty Macs smacked three homers in the top of the eighth, including a two-run shot from first baseman Connor Blesi that them up 5-3.

Marywood made things interesting in the bottom of the eighth when Schuster homered to right center, his first of the year, and opened the ninth with a double from Scott Becker, but could not drive in the tying run.

The Pacers will be back in action Tuesday with a 5:00 pm game at The University of Scranton.
