Baseball Drops Doubleheader at Marymount

Arlington, Va. - Marywood fell to 0-4 in Atlantic East Conference play after the Pacers dropped a conference twinbill to Marymount University Saturday afternoon.

The Pacers fell 5-3 in the seven-inning opener and 19-10 in the nine-inning nightcap.  Marywood stands at 4-13 overall and 0-4 in the Atlantic East.

Marywood held a 2-0 lead in the opener through four and a half innings before the hosts mounted a comeback. Jake Schuster hit his third homer of the season in the first inning to put the Pacers up 1-0.  Marywood would double their lead in the top half of the fifth when a run scored on a balk.

But in the home half of the fifth, the Pacers gave up five unearned runs that they were not able to respond to.  A sacrifice fly from Joseph Bruno in the sixth scored Schuster to cut the deficit to 5-3 but that was the final run Marywood would score.

Cody Reese (0-1) suffered the loss on the mound despite not giving up an earned run.  Marywood out-hit Marymount 6-3 in the opener, but committed two errors to none for the Saints.

In the high-scoring nine-inning nightcap, Marymount held a 4-1 lead after one full inning of play.  An RBI single up the middle from Schuster in the top of the fourth tied the game up at 4-4, but the Saints put four more on the board in the bottom half of the inning to double their lead at 8-4.

Despite the Pacers scoring one run in both the fifth and sixth innings, Marymount's seven-run home-half of the sixth put the game out of reach.

Schuster continued his hot-streak for Marywood, going 5-for-6 with two RBI.  Schuster's five-hit nightcap ties him for second all-time for individual hits in a single game with five others.

Marywood will travel to nearby Wilkes Tuesday for a non-conference single game.
