Marywood Handles Gwynedd Mercy, Faces Top-Seed Neumann Next

Aston, Pa. - Fourth-seed Marywood University handled sixth-seeded Gwynedd Mercy University and eliminated the Griffins from "Pod A" with a 11-1 win in five innings.  Gwynedd Mercy is eliminated from the Atlantic East post-season tournament after falling to top-seed Neumann earlier in the day.

Marywood will now face the Knights at 3:50 pm in the second game of the day for each team.  No matter who wins the nightcap today, the teams will face off again tomorrow in the double-elimination format.

The Pacers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on Gwynedd Mercy when Kaitlyn Epler scored on a wild pitch and Kirstie Alvarez drove in a run on a sac fly to right.  

In the third, Marywood (19-20) doubled their lead as Jackie Burke drove in two runs with a single to left.  

The Pacers put the game away in the top of the fifth with seven runs, highlighted by a two-run double from Burke, a two-run single from Kate O'Meara and another two-run double, this time from Hannah Docalovich, as well as a run-scoring single from Epler.

Depsite giving up a run in the bottom of the fifth, Kirstie Alvarez was nearly flawless on the mound, improving to 11-8 after scattering seven hits and fanning eight GMU batters.
