Neumann Eliminates Marywood from Atlantic East Playoffs

Aston, Pa. - Top-seed Neumann University eliminated four-seed Marywood University from the Atlantic East Conference playoffs with a 8-0 five-inning win over the Pacers Sunday morning in Aston. The loss closes the Pacers' season with a 19-22 record.

The Knights (27-12) advance to next weekend's best-of-three Championship series against the winner of Pod B, which will be determined later today.

The hosts jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the opening inning and never allowed Marywood to threaten the rest of the way. They added four runs over the final three innings as well to put the game away early.

A two-run single to left center started things off for the Knights, and they followed with a run scoring double and RBI single to go up four early. Another RBI double in the third put Neumann up 5-0, and they went up 7-0 in the fourth on a sac fly and RBI triple.  The game would end in the bottom of the fifth inning when Neumann scoring the winning run on their fifth double of the game.

Senior Kirstie Alvarez closes the season with a 11-10 record on the mound.  Fellow senior Katie Siano pitched the final two outs.

Kaitlyn Epler had three of Marywood's five hits in the game, going 3-for-3 at the plate.  Megan Gaeb and Sarah Witte both went 1-for-2.

Today's game marked the last in the careers of seniors Alvarez, Siano, Kate O'Meara, Amanda Bridgwood and Hannah Docalovich.
