Lycoming Tops Women's Soccer in OT

Williamsport, Pa. - Marywood University had a goal called back with less than 10 minutes left in regulation and host Lycoming took advantage by scoring in overtime as the Warriors stunned the Pacers in non-conference women's soccer action.

Marywood (1-4) controlled much of play, but the hosts turned it up in overtime, out-shooting the visitors 6-1, and got the game-winner with 1:07 in the first OT when Elle Sarracco fired a ball in from the right that was pushed away by Bella DiToma, only to find the feet of an oncoming Megan Oyler, who one-timed it into the back of the net from close range.

The Pacers had a eerily similar goal called back with less than 10 minutes to play as Madison Daches and Desi Rill connected for what appeared to be the go-ahead goal, but the play was nullified when the assistant referee raised his flag for offside.

Play resumed and neither team could find the back of the net, forcing sudden death extra time.

Despite controlling tempo for much of the contest, both teams were able to fire off 21 shots, 13 of which were on goal.  Jess Riordan was stellar in goal for the hosts, turning away 11 shots, several in spectacular fashion. The Warriors (4-2-1) also had a team defensive save as a back cleared one ball off the goal-line in the first half.

DiToma finished with 12 saves in the loss.  Antonella Doglio had nine shots for the Pacers, six of which were on goal.

Marywood's schedule does not get any easier as the Pacers travel to York College of Pennsylvania Saturday for a 12:30 pm game.
