Marywood Blanks Keystone for First Win

VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS

LaPlume, Pa. - A hat-trick from Jackie VonItter and points from eight players led Marywood to a 6-0 win over Keystone College Wednesday night in LaPlume.  For Marywood, it was the first hat-trick from a Pacer since  Renee Moken's trio versus Clarks Summit on September 23, 2017.

Frustrated early by strong play from the Keystone back line and keeper Rebeka Shepherd, Marywood broke through in the 29th minute when Desi Rill took a feed from Kayla Schmatke down the middle and beat Shepherd.  With less than four minutes remaining before the half, Claire Dalli talled her first collegiate goal with a beautiful one-time finish off a Carissa Novelli assist.  Novelli turned a feed from Danielle Shields to find Dalli darting through the middle of the 18 unmarked.

Five and a half minutes into the second half, VonItter would tally her first of three consecutive goals for the Pacers.  The first came on feed from Rill, and the next two VonItter would finish in the air off crosses from Cara Romaniello.  VonItter's middle goal was vollied home in the 57th minute and her last was headed home in the 83rd from the far post.

The Pacers (1-1) closed the scoring in the 87th as Antonella Doglio's cross was vollied in off the far post by Olivia Minniti for her first collegiate tally.

In all, Marywood outshot host Keystone 37-3, placing 18 of those targets on frame and forcing Shepherd to come up with 18 saves on the night.  Marywood also had a 13-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Bella DiToma made one save early in the second half and split the shutout with Haley Taylor.  DiToma went 61:31 in goal and Taylor played the remaining 28:28 without being forced to make a save.

The Giants fell to 0-2 on the year.

Marywood will host Albright College in their home opener Saturday at 1:00 pm.
