Box Score Scranton, Pa. - Marywood University treated a large Insalaco Arena crowd to a thrilling comeback 3-2 victory over Wilkes University Thursday in its home women's volleyball opener. The Pacers defeated the Colonels for the second straight season, winning by scores of 10-25, 25-23, 19-25, 25-22, 15-9.
Peri Sheerin finishes with 16 kills and a .308 attack percentage for the Pacers. She had a double-double with 13 digs.
Nicole Cashman sparked the Pacers with eight kills and seven digs.
Sara Burgos also just missed out on a double-double with 35 assists and nine digs.
Defensively, the Pacers were aided by
Jordan Vossler's 22 digs.
Sam Compton came through with 13 digs and four aces.
Mikayla Attwood blocked three shots.
Marywood finished the game with a double block from Attwood and Cashman.
For the match, the Pacers shot .109 to the Colonels' .169. Marywood's defense clamored the Colonels in the fifth set. Wilkes had just three kills and a minus-.036 in the deciding stanza. There were 19 tie scores and nine lead changes.
Wilkes had four players in double figures for kills, lead by Jamey Mikovich's 17. She also added 20 digs, five aces, and five blocks. Julie Murphy had a game-high 26 digs.
Holding onto a two-match winning streak, the Pacers are idle until Wednesday, Sept. 11 when they head to Misericordia University to take on the Cougars and Penn College in a tri-match.
