Marymount Holds Off Men's Basketball, 90-84

Scranton, Pa. - Despite shooting over 57% for the game, Marywood University's men's basketball team fell to visiting Marymount (Va.) 90-84 in Atlantic East Conference action Saturday afternoon.

The Pacers fell to 6-12 (1-4 AEC) with the loss while the Saints moved to 11-8 (4-2).

Adam Boussatta had a game-high 22 points on 9 of 14 shooting for the Pacers.  Jack DeGroot (18), Donovan Catchings (11) and Zach Tinkham (10) all reached double digits for Marywood.

The Saints placed five players in double figures, led by 19 from Xavier Reaves and 18 from Taiga Walker.

After trailing by six (39-33) at the break, Marywood shot over 80% from the floor in the first 15 minutes of the second half, but could not complete the comeback.  They got to within three (76-73) on a three from Boussatta with 4:55 to go, but the Saints pulled away on the charity stripe the remainder of the way.

The key statistic for the game was Marymount's 23-3 advantage in second-chance points. The Saints had a 40-20 advantage in rebounds, including an 18-3 mark on offensive boards.

Both teams had impressive shooting performances overall, with Marymount going 32-62 (51.6%) and Marywood hitting 31 of 54 (57.4%) attempts.  The Pacers were able to hit 11 of 21 (52.4%) from beyond the arc while limiting the visitors to 30% (6 of 20) shooting from long range, but the Saints enjoyed 14 more free throw attempts and went 20-of-29 on the line.

Marywood returns to the hardwood Wednesday when they travel to Aston to take on Neumann University. Tip-off is at 8:00 pm.
