Kosin Sinks Winning Basket to Prevail over Immaculata

Jade Rolon breaks single-game assists record

Scranton, Pa. – Senior Olivia Kosin sank a game-winning bucket to give Marywood University a 67-65 victory over Immaculata University in an Atlantic East Conference women's basketball nailbiter on Saturday afternoon. Kosin made the go-ahead basket with 1.3 seconds left to provide the Pacers with their second consecutive victory over a conference opponent.

Receiving possession with 31 seconds left in a tie game, Kosin received a pass from Jade Rolon in the middle of the paint without any other option other than to take it herself. Kosin's underhand shot hung up on the front of the rim for roughly two-tenths of a second before plunging into the basket.

Rolon's assist on the game-winning shot established the school's single-game record. Playing a full 40 minutes, Rolon finished with 10 assists, the first in Marywood history to reach double digits since the scoring category was created in 1988-89.

Aryah Aungst led the Pacers with 18 points, 13 rebounds and five assists. After a first half with just six minutes on the court, Aungst went off in the second half to shepherd the Pacers' comeback. Aungst scored 16 points and 12 rebounds in the second half alone.

Conversely, Cait Reilly kept the Pacers' afloat with a valiant first-half effort. She set a career-high with 17 points on 7 of 9 (.778) from the field with three 3-pointers. Reilly made all six of her first-half shots for 14 points, accounting for 64 percent of the team's offensive production.

Katie Wolfgang also set a career-best with 11 points.

Marywood (6-11, 3-4 Atlantic East) came back from a nine-minute deficit with just over a minute remaining in the third quarter. Over a two-minute stretch, the Mighty Macs recaptured the lead (37-36) on a Theresa Kearney jumper in the paint, kicking off a 10-point run. Annie Kohutka made a 3-pointer at the 1:14 mark to take a 45-36 advantage.

The Pacers responded quickly with five unanswered points, all off of Rolon assists, before quarter's end. Aungst made a jumper in the paint, and Wolfgang connected on a long-range shot to head into the last stanza trailing by four.

Immaculata (9-11, 3-4 Atlantic East) retained the lead until just over two minutes remaining in the game. Aungst stole a ball and missed a jumper at the other end. Kosin grabbed the offensive rebound and dished it to Reilly for a 3-pointer that evened the score at 63-63.

Aungst gave the Pacers' their first lead of the fourth quarter when she made both free throws after being fouled on a defensive rebound. Theresa Kearney made two free throws with 31 seconds left to tie the game and set the stage for Kosin's theatrics.

Marywood shot 43.5 percent from the floor and made 36.8 percent from beyond the arc. The Pacers outrebounded the Macs by a 42-33 margin. Immaculata made 38.1 percent of its shots but made more than half of its attempts in the second half.

Immaculata was led by Kearney's 22 points. Kohutka had 17 points, and Brielle Rigo finished with a double-double of 16 points and 13 rebounds.

Marywood travels to Gwynedd Mercy University on Wednesday at 6:00 pm.
