Maritime Sinks Men's Lacrosse, 19-6

Zach Vaughan collects 10 ground balls

Scranton, Pa. - Maritime College opened with 10 unanswered goals to defeat Marywood University 19-6 Saturday in non-conference men's lacrosse. Missing some of its starters, the Pacers stayed even with the Privateers throughout the second and third quarters.

Zach Vaughan finished with two goals and an assist for three points. Vaughan collected 10 ground balls and added two caused turnovers.

On the faceoff-x, Zach Bradbury won 10 chances with seven ground balls. Jeff Johnsen supplied two goals.

Patrick Dingwell and Joseph Guida each had four ground balls. Ryan Matthews, Matt Leen and Matt Potter totaled three ground balls.

Leen stopped seven shots.

A reigning All-American, Matt DeMeo finished with seven goals and two assists for nine points to lift the Privateers in their season opener. Mike Leake added six points on three goals and three assists.

Marywood had a pair of three-minute stretches of three goals. Ben Mustakos ended the drought wit h a goal from Vaughan at the 6:17 mark of the second quarter. Vaughan jumped up to intercept a pass from the Maritime keeper and netted an unassisted goal. Johnsen added a goal two minutes later.

The Pacers travel to Misericordia University on Wednesday afternoon.
