Marywood Puts Top Regionally Ranked Marymount on the Ropes, Falls in Second Half

No. 5 Pacers to travel to fourth-seeded Immaculata in Atlantic East first round

Arlington, Va. - Marywood University led the top-ranked team in the Atlantic Region at halftime before falling in the second half. After holding a five-point lead at halftime, the Pacers ultimately succumbed to Marymount University 51-38 Saturday in the Atlantic East Conference women's basketball regular season finale.

The Pacers lock the No. 5 seed and travel to fourth-seeded Immaculata University for the Atlantic East First Round on Monday night.

Marywood (8-15, 4-8 Atlantic East) held the Saints, to whom they lost by 40 at home earlier in the season, to less than 20 points in the first half. The Pacers led 23-18 at the break and clung on to a lead until the last minute of the third quarter. Marymount went on a 17-point run to take a four-point deficit to a 42-29 lead at the midway point of the fourth.

Marymount (21-4, 11-1 Atlantic East) was kept to just 25.4 percent from the field. On the other hand, Marywood made one-third of its attempts.

Olivia Kosin led the Pacers with 13 points and eight rebounds. Aryah Aungst finished with eight points, seven rebounds and four steals. Jade Rolon supplied eight points.

Marymount's Abby Fisher tallied 11 points. Katie McShea finished with 10 points and 11 boards.

The Pacers started off well by taking a 15-7 lead at the 1:20 mark of the first quarter when Kosin drained a layup in the pain. Katie Wolfgang made a layup with nine seconds left to take a 17-9 lead after the first stanza.

Marywood's lead grew to double digits in the opening minute of the second quarter. Aungst and Wolfgang each made jump shots to extend the Pacers' lead to 21-9. Both teams combined for two points apiece in the last 6:07 of the half with Aidan Phillips' layup dropping the Pacers' advantage to five.

The Saints went ahead with 41 seconds remaining in the third quarter on Fisher's layup, following a McShea swipe that provided a 30-29 lead.

Marymount is the No. 1 seed in the conference playoffs.
