Dunmore, Pa. – Marywood University opened the 2020 baseball season by hitting four home runs in a 12-4 victory over Penn State Brandywine Sunday at Schautz Stadium. The Pacers' four roundtrippers tied a program record that was twice set in 2002 against University of Scranton and Arcadia University.
Bubba Klein went 3 for 4 with three runs and three RBIs. Klein hit a home run and stole a base.
Anthony Navaro batted 2 for 5 with two runs and four RBIs. He hit his sixth career home run and added two runs.
Sophomore second baseman Vinny D'Auria posted his first career home run as part of a two-hit, two-run effort. D'Auria doubled his career RBI total with three.
Michael Tempel hit safely in all three of his at-bats. He scored two runs and swiped two bases.
Morgan Theobald opened the game with a solo shot on his second pitch. Theobald airmailed the ball over the right-center field wall onto the roof of a nearby textile factory.
Tyler Quick took the hill in the opener, striking out seven in three innings. Quick allowed two hits and no earned runs. TJ Lacey picked up the win in relief with five strikeouts in three innings.
After Theobald's leadoff homer, Marywood tacked on three runs in the second inning. Navaro crushed a two-run home run to centerfield. D'Auria walked and stole second before James Myers hit an RBI double to deep right field to make it 4-0.
Marywood is set to travel to Chambersburg, Pa. on Thursday for a doubleheader against Wilson College.
