Men's Lacrosse Kept at Bay by Utica, 11-9

Utiica, N.Y. – Marywood University was unable to come out of a five-goal hole, inevitably falling 11-9 to Utica College Wednesday in men's lacrosse action. The Pioneers jumped to a 5-0 lead in the first seven minutes.
 
Patrick Dingwell finished with a hat trick. Jeff Johnsen recorded four points on two goals and two assists.
 
Zach Bradbury won 12 faceoffs with six ground balls. Tom Gibson notched three ground balls.
 
Connor Reed and Matt Leen split time in net. Reed made eight saves, and Leen stopped seven.
 
Utica outshot the Pacers by a 49-36 margin and had a 30-20 advantage in ground balls. Marywood was 12 of 18 on clear attempts. Utica went 17 of 26 on clears.
 
After the Pioneers went ahead by five, Marywood scored its first goal from Dingwell with 1:14 remaining in the first quarter. He added a man-up tally from Dalton Metzger to start the second quarter. Eric Morin's 11th goal of the year cut the deficit to 5-3 with 7:28 to go.
 
Marywood again trimmed Utica's lead to two (6-4), but Utica added a goal with 12 seconds left before the break.
 
Marywood and Utica traded goals back and forth three times; however, the Pioneers repeatedly responded to keep the Pacers at bay.
 
The Pacers capitalized on just one of four man-up opportunities in the last 15:10.
