Softball Splits on Senior Day

Leesburg, Fla. - Playing in what could be their last game of the spring 2020 season, Marywood bounced back from a 4-3 loss to Wittenberg to defeat Hood College 8-0 in their nightcap. With the uncertainty of future events due to the COVID-19 virus, Marywood celebrated "Senior Day" on their last day in Florida.

The Pacers (4-4) dominated Hood out of the gates, using a four-run second inning to build a 5-0 lead.  Marywood added two in the fourth, and ended the game with a lone run in the sixth. Marywood's Nina Kozar went 3-for-4 with an RBI while Julianna Biedler had two RBI. Gianna Marsico improved to 3-1 on the year with a two strikeout, five hit performance on the mound.

In the opening game of the day, Wittenberg rallied from a 2-0 deficit, took a 4-2 lead by the fourth inning and held off a late Marywood rally attempt. Kelly McKenna suffered the loss (1-1) after allowing three runs on five hits in 2.1 innings of work.  Katelyn Weller pitched the final 3.2 for Marywood, allowing one run on two hits.  The duo combined for three strikeouts. Lauryn Butler, Sierra Mulgrew and Annie Heyen had the Pacers' three hits. Mulgrew's hit was a double.

Marywood is set to have online classes until April 14. The Atlantic East Conference will reassess the COVID-19 virus threat March 27. Marywood athletics will be suspended through April 13.  Should spring play resume, Marywood's next scheduled contest is on April 14 in a conference doubleheader against Immaculata.

Marywood honored Sarah Witte, Kaitlyn Epler, Sara Hayes, Lauryn Butler and Sierra Mulgrew as seniors prior to the game.
