Marywood, Franciscan Split Baseball Twinbill

Fort Pierce, Fla. - Marywood University fell to Franciscan University 3-0 in the opening game of their 2020 spring break trip to Florida but the Pacers rallied for a 12-6 win in the nightcap to salvage a split.

In the opener. Marywood fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 3-0 setback. Both teams pitched well, with Francisan pitchers striking out seven and Marywood sitting down six. 

An error scored two runs for Franciscan in the first and a sacrifice fly would score their final run in the second.  From there, no team could manage much offense. The Barons out-hit the Pacers, 7-3.  

Jacob Watson got the win, lasting seven innings and allowing three hits and no runs while striking out seven. Marywood's TJ Lacey suffered the loss.  He allowed seven hits, gave up three runs and struck out four over five innings.  Alex Ferriola threw on inning of relif.  Vinny D'Auria, Morgan Theobald and Anthony Navaro had Marywood's hits. Brendan Burke went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Barons. 

In the 12-6 win for the Pacers in the nightcap, Marywood used an eight run fifth inning.  The offensive onslaught came from singles by Michael Temple and Jake Schuster, a walk by Austin Takvor, a sac fly from Navaro and a double from Scott Becker.

Down 12-3, Franciscan tried to make a game of it with three runs in their final at-bat but were finally put down.  Jacob Watson and Noah Smith had RBIs for the Barons in the big inning.

Franciscan grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first on a Nate Gramman RBI single.  Marywood got a run back in both the first and second to tie things up, and scored twice in the third to take a 4-2 lead.  

Tyler Quick allowed 10 hits and two runs over five innings of work, striking out six and walking one in the win.  Josh Costello suffered the loss, going four innings and allowing four runs while fanning two. Temple, Bubba Klein and Becker each had multiple hits in the nightcap win for Marywood. 

Marywood stands at 2-3 on the year and will face the Universitiy of Northwestern (Minn.) tomorrow.​​​​​​
