Men's Tennis Notches First Win, Defeat Muhlenberg 6-3

Scranton, Pa. - Marywood University men's tennis picked up a 6-3 non-league win over Muhlenberg College Saturday afternoon for the Pacers' first win of the season (1-2).  The Mules dropped to 0-1 with the loss.

Jarrod Palmer, Hunter Talipski and Noah Budnovitch all recorded their first singles wins of the season while freshman James Cawley continued his winning ways recording his second win of the season. 

Marywood took two of three doubles matches to take an early 2-1 lead. Daniel Kentor and Benedict Kohler defeated Eddie McGreevy and Stefano Verela-Seri 8-1 in the top doubles flight before Marywood earned 8-4 and 8-1 wins at two and three-doubles, respectively.

Cawley partnered with Palmer at two-doubles for the 8-4 win over Josh Benson and Noah Katz while Budnovitch and Talipski cruised to an 8-1 win at three-doubles over Isaac Shulman and Matthew Wagner.

In singles play, McGreevy fell to Kohler, 6-0, 6-2 at one-singles.  Kantor defeated Verela-Seri 6-1, 6-0 at two-singles, but Marywood won out.  Cawley was a 6-4, 6-2 winner at three-singles and Plamer won his four-singles match 6-1, 6-2.

Two tight matches were won by Marywood at five and six singles.  Talipski defeated Shulman 6-7 (3-7), 6-0, 10-8 at five-singles and Budnovitch picked up a 7-6 (7-4), 6-7 (5-7), 10-8 win over Wagner at six-singles.

Marywood closes out fall action next Saturday when they travel to Williamsport to take on Penn College at 2:00 pm.
