Women's Soccer Escapes Regular Season with 2OT Win

Tzitzis scores double OT winner off feed from Mulherin

Scranton, Pa. - Marywood University escaped the Atlantic East regular season unbeaten after Victoria Tzitzis' game-winner 3:37 into the second overtime Wednesday afternoon. Tzitzis put home a feed from Riley Mulherin as the Pacers beat Neumann University 1-0.

Marywood is the top-seed in the upcoming AEC post-season, but the Knights did everything they could to prevent Marywood from going unblemished in conference regular season play. Marywood (12-4, 6-0 AEC) out-shot the visitors 24-2 and had a 14-1 advantage in shots on goal.

Mulherin nearly netted the game-winner early in the second half. After receiving a ball from Josephine Sorce, Mulherin beat Neumann keeper Marissa Waters, only to have her open-net shot cleared off the line by a recovering Knights' defender.

Neumann (6-3, 3-3 AEC) got 13 saves from Waters and the one team save in the loss. The Knights' most dangerous opportunity came off a corner kick late in the first overtime, but it was eventually cleared out by the Pacers' defense.

Neumann will be the four-seed in the post-season tournament and will host fifth-seed Immaculata University Monday at a time to be determined.

Rebekah Becker made one save to collect her sixth solo and team's ninth shutout of the year. The Pacers are winners of eight straight and 10 of their last 11.

Marywood will host the lowest remaining seed after Monday's first round Atlantic East playoff games on Wednesday, November 3 in the semifinals.
