Pacers Wrap Up Season with Semifinal Loss to Cavaliers

Annie Heyen eclipses 1,000 assists in final game

Radnor, Pa. — Fourth-seeded Marywood University closed its season with a 3-0 loss to Cabrini University Thursday in the Atlantic East Conference volleyball semifinal. It marks the third time in as many seasons that the Pacers lost in the AEC semis.

The Cavaliers were victorious by scores of 25-16, 25-16, 25-20.

Marywood (11-20) had an eight-kill effort from Casey Hagerstrom. Hagerstrom did not commit any errors to finish with a .400 attack percentage.

Both Emily O'Brien and Shannon Corr tallied seven kills. Corr was the team's top defensive player with 14 digs.

Annie Heyen reached the millennium mark with her 1,005th career assist. Heyen tallied 27 sets. Evangeline Kelly and Donna Bostjancic each had nine digs.

Cabrini was led by Hannah Dalton's double-double with 13 kills and 14 digs. Gina Guster garnered 16 digs.

Marywood's bad chance to steal a set came in the third. O'Brien put the Pacers ahead 14-11 with a kill. Cabrini followed with a four-point run on Custer serves to take a 15-14 lead. After trading leads four times, Marywood evened the score at 19-19 on an attack error and cut the deficit to 21-20 with a Cavs service error. Cabrini closed out the match with a four-point run, thanks to a pair of Sam Heenan kills.

Top-seeded Cabrini will host No. 2 Marymount University Saturday in the Atlantic East Conference championship. The Cavaliers and Saints have met in all three Atlantic East finals.
