Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Topped by Seahawks in Naples

Jason Holman named AEC Player of the Week earlier in the day

Naples, Fla. — Marywood University men's basketball came away from Florida empty-handed with a 65-48 loss Monday at the hands of St. Mary's College of Maryland. The Pacers will look to turn the tables on their three-game losing streak Thursday, Dec. 30 on their home court against Mount Saint Mary College.

Less than an hour after being named the Atlantic East Conference Player of the Week, Jason Holman was the lone Marywood player in double figures with 10 points. Holman has reached double figures in 10 of 12 games this season.

Corey Perkins and Brendan Franko each provided nine points for the Pacers (5-7). Perkins was the team's leading rebounder with six.

St. Mary's propelled a dominant defensive effort to victory. The Seahawks out-rebounded Marywood by a 57-24 margin. Despite the lopsided margin, the Pacers out-shot the Seahawks by a 38.6-to-36.4 percent rate.

The Seahawks (3-5) used a balanced distribution with five players in double figures. Jordan Goodwin and Gary Grant scored 11 apiece. Elijah Crawford (10p-10r) and Duane Mason Jr. (10p-14r) each provided double-doubles. Isaiah Eggleston tallied 10.

St. Mary's jumped out from the opening tip, leading by as much as 12 in the early goings. Marywood responded with a 9-1 run. Holman knocked down a 3-pointer to cut the deficit to 23-19 with 6:54 remaining in the first half. St. Mary's kept the Pacers to just a field goal — a Corey Perkins' long-ranged basket — until halftime. The 14-4 run to close out the final whistle extended the Seahawks' lead to 14.

It was the first meeting between the two programs in more than 15 seasons.

Marywood takes on Mount Saint Mary College in its non-conference finale on Dec. 30 at 7 p.m. in the Insalaco Arena.
