Women's Soccer Avenges Loss, Downs Immaculata 3-1

Immaculata, Pa. - Marywood University avenged a home loss to Immaculata University by beating the Mighty Macs 3-1 on their own home field Saturday afternoon. The Pacers got goals from Antonella Doglio, Elizabeth Levine and Victoria Tzitzis in the win.

An own goal prevented the Marywood (1-1) shutout bid. Immaculata closed their season at 2-1-1.

Following an Immaculata corner kick just over twenty minutes into the contest, Doglio contested and won a re-entry attempt from the Mighty Macs, and from there a succession of one-time passes helped the Pacers go 80 yards for the game's first goal. Doglio found Kate Kollar-Dye out wide at the midline, received a one-time pass back from her, and then sent the ball to a streaking Levine, who played another one-touch pass back to Doglio behind the defense. From just outside the 18 yard box, Doglio slotted Immaculata's keeper near-post for the go-ahead tally.

Moments later, Rebekah Becker made a brilliant point-blank save on a Mighty Mac breakaway. Becker got just enough of the far-post shot to force the ball wide of the post and out for another Immaculata corner kick.

Marywood would go up 2-0 with 14:08 left in the first half when another Marywood couter-attack resulted in a goal. A clearance from Molly Sobolewski found Madison Muller's head, and the ensuing flick landed at the feet of Tzitzis, who beat one defender then found Levine on the right. Levine took one touch to her right then sent a ball into the far left upper-90 to put the Pacers up 2-1.

Less than two minutes later, Immaculata took a dangerous ball to the endline, and the ensuing shot off the cross that came in unfortunately re-directed off a Marywood defender past Bella DiToma, who was moving in the direction of the original shot. The goal was ruled an "own goal" against Marywood, cutting the Pacers' lead to 2-1.

In the 57th minute, Soboleski pressured Immaculata's keeper on a corner kick, resulting in a loose ball in front that Tzitzis put home to give Marywood a two-goal cushion once again.

In goal for Marywood, Becker got the win in just over 30 minutes of action, making four key stops in all. DiToma played just over 36 minutes and made two stops, while Haley Taylor played the final 25 and made one stop to preserve the win. Immaculata out-shot Marywood 12-11 but the Pacers had a 8-7 advantage in shots on goal.

Marywood will host an intrasquad game tomorrow to celebrate senor day at 3:30 pm. Next week, the Pacers close their season by hosting Cairn University on Sunday (4/24) at 12:00 pm.
