Baseball Snaps Skid, Edges Wesley 6-5

Dover, Del. - Marywood University ended a nine-game skid and picked up their first Atlantic East Conference win of the year with a 6-5 win over Wesley College Friday afternoon. The Pacers (4-10, 1-9 Atlantic East) got a save from Alex Ferriola, who struck out two and got all three final outs for the Pacers.

Marywood took a 1-0 lead in the second when Shane Smith scored on a wild pitch. In the third, Scott Decker hit a two-run triple to right, scoring Michael Tempel and Jake Schuster on the hit. John Mandarano would then single to bring Decker across and give the Pacers a 4-0 lead, and Ben Gravel would single to bring Mandarano home and put Marywood up 5-0.

In the fifth, Gravel would single again and pick up another RBI as Marywood built a 6-0 lead. Gravel's RBI would prove crucial, as Wesley would plate two in the fifth and three more in the seventh to make it a one-run game.

Ferriola stranded runners on second and third as the game ended to pick up his first save of the year. Tyler Quick struck out one and allowed just two hits in two innings of middle relief to get the hold.

Becker and Gravel each had two RBI for the Pacers. Michael Aronica struck out five in the win, his first of the year (1-2).

Marywood will host the Wolverines (4-13, 3-10 AEC) tomorrow for senior day. The double header kicks off at noon in Scranton.
