Baseball Drops Season Finale at Neumann

Aston, Pa. - Neumann University rebounded from a Friday loss to Marywood University to defeat the Pacers in both games of a doubleheader Saturday. The Knights won game one 5-3 before taking the nightcap, 11-7.

In the opener, Neumann built a 3-0 lead through three innings of play before Ben Gravel drove in a run for the Pacers with a single up the middle in the top of the sixth. The Knights would add two more in the bottom half of the frame to take a 5-1 lead. Marywood got two back in the top of the seventh on a two-run homer from program record holder Jake Schuster, but the Pacers could not muster any more runs.

In the nine inning nightcap, David Ortiz's double to right that scored Gravel put the Pacers up 1-0 in the second. The score would remain that way until Neumann scored six runs over the fifth and sixth innings.

Marywood got two back in the seventh to make it a 6-3 ballgame, but Neumann answered again, this time with a grand slam in the seventh, to break open their lead again. A three-run double from Michael Tempel and a RBI double from Gravel in the ninth seemed to be the start of a comeback for the Pacers, but again their rally was cut short with no more runs.

Morgan Theobald and Temple each had three hits in the nightcap while Theobald and Schuster each had two hits in the opener.

Marywood closes their season at 7-15 (4-14 Atlantic East).
